Walking in Faith or Wishing Upon a Star

Walking in faith or wishing upon a star?

When we say we are walking in Faith, what do we mean? It’s easy to say we have faith but the real question is faith in what? Too often we are standing on our own desires that are contrary to what the Father has for us and we are standing in faith the whole time. Faith was given to us for a reason. It is to bring us into a closer trusting relationship with the Father. However, many often view the Father as some great genie in the sky who grants us our every wish and whim and we call that “faith”.

To walk in faith we must walk according to the word of the Father that we have been given. We have been told that anything we ask in His name we have been given. The problem is we forget what James tells us.

James 1:5-8

(5)  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

(6)  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

(7)  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

(8)  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

And also,

James 4:1-3

(1)  From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

(2)  Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

(3)  Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

So the question still stands what is our faith really in? It should be set in our Father and in His word. It’s not just saying something that makes it true. When we come into agreement with the Word of the Lord and we stand on that, that is faith in action. We are not moved by our circumstances but we are firm in the word that we have been given to walk in.

We see an example of this in the story of the Exodus from Egypt. Yah had brought His people out from Egypt and He led them in the direction that they should go. They now stand at the edge of the sea and they stop. Coming after them is Pharaoh and his army. They cannot go back, they will be attacked by the ones who had enslaved them. In their mind they couldn’t go forward because they would drown. They were now defeated, according to the natural mind.

In these times we see where our faith is and what it is in. Did Yah tell the children of Israel to stop when they got to the sea? They were going in the right direction, why did they stop? In the “logical” order of things they had done all they could do and now they would die. Let’s take a quick look at what happened on the shore in Exodus 14.

Exodus 14:13-15

(13)  And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

(14)  The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

(15)  And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:

The first thing that was told to the people was to fear not, in other words, have faith. They were told that the Lord would fight for them if they held their peace. Such a lesson we all could learn from. When we are in situations where our faith is tested because it doesn’t look like we think it should, what are the words that come out of our mouths? Is it someone else’s fault that we are there? Is it our spouses fault? Our boss? The leaders in our assemblies? Are we quick to speak negative and pin blame on people or are we going to have faith and watch our mouths?

Notice what was said above in verse fifteen “And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward”. The people were to keep walking in the last direction that they received from the Father.

Do we feel like our back is against the wall? Are we speaking negative things or are we walking in faith. We even stand and say that we wish our circumstances were different. Remember, Yah led the children of Israel to where they were. If He led you to where you are now, He will lead you through it! What happened when Israel stepped out in Faith?

Exodus 14:22-23

(22) And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

(23) And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

Exodus 14:27-28

(27) And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

(28) And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

Israel walked through the water on dry land

Why did the Egyptians not make it across?

Obviously, because they were pursuing Israel

Why else?

Their hearts were hardened

They had no faith in the God of Avraham, Yitzchak and Ya’akov

They were following Israel, walking in the same steps, with cold hearts and evil intentions

To say another way, their hearts were hard even though they saw the same miracle of Yah and they walked the exact same way that Israel did. The difference was their heart and intentions while they were walking. Their heart of offense toward Yah and His people caused their hearts to grow cold and to not receive the word of Yah.

Matthew 24:10-13

(10)  And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

(11)  And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

(12)  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

(13)  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

When we walk in faith we are doing more than wishing on a star for our circumstances to be different. To walk in Faith is, again, walking in the word that we have been given knowing full well that Yah is there with us no matter what circumstance is around us.

God performed the deliverance but Israel had a part to play in it, this shows that…

Relationship

Covenant

Faith

Obedience

Attitude

Action

All played a part in the red sea crossing

Exodus 14:17

And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

Hebrews 3:15

Now where it says, "Today, if you hear God's voice, don't harden your hearts, as you did in the Bitter Quarrel,"

Psalms 95:7-8

(7) For He is our God;

and we are the people of His pasture,

and the sheep of His hand.

Today,

if you will hear His voice,

(8) do not harden your heart as in the day of strife, as in the day of testing in the wilderness.

Do not be affected by what you see, but walk in what you KNOW

The book of Hebrews tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. We miss something in this verse. We need to see that faith IS SUBSTANCE! We need to see that faith IS EVIDENCE!

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance

of things hoped for,

the evidence

of things not seen.

2 Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith, not by sight

Are we walking in the Kingdom of YHWH

Matthew 12:25

And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

If we truly are walking in the Kingdom of YHWH, we cannot be a kingdom divided by people continually speaking evil of one another! To walk in the kingdom, we need to help build it. We do so by helping one another to walk in the faith of YHWH and to keep moving forward.

Luke 17:20-21

(20) And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

(21) Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

John 3:3-5

(3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

(4) Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

(5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

1 John 5:1-8

(1) Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

(2) By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

(3) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

(4) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

(5) Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

(6) This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

(7) For there are three that bear record in heaven,

the Father,

the Word,

and the Holy Ghost:

and these three are one.

(8) And there are three that bear witness in earth,

the Spirit,

and the water,

and the blood:

and these three agree in one.

Revelation 22:12-17

(12) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

(13) I am Alpha and Omega, (Aleph-Tav) the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

(14) Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

(15) For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

(16) I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

(17) And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Revelation 12:10-11

(10) And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

(11) And they overcame him by

the blood of the Lamb,

and by the word of their testimony;

and they loved not their lives unto the death.

May we all walk together for the common purpose of revealing the Kingdom of YHWH on the earth as it is in Heaven and not be a kingdom divided against itself. That truly is a walk of faith.

Until next time,

David
